Browser Game Stories

I would say that in terms of what went right, it was that this size was even possible. As well as the fact that ECT twice even worked. Also, a lot of it was sheer luck. It was a very rigorous process making this, and it involved a LOT of compute time in Zopfli-Krzymod. It was a wild ride.

What went wrong: In 2019, Google Chrome stopped supporting loading SVGZ files from disk, instead, one has to do the server method that must be used when making Firefox and Safari load it. SourceForge supports this method, Github does not. Also, old Edge (prior to Microsoft using Chrome’s engine) and Internet Explorer would never work with it, given certain parts of the code. But those browsers are no longer a problem.

As for what I learned, I would say that I learned the value of perseverance and dedication. Also, I learned that what can seem like a tall order can in fact be possible. Also, sometimes the best things come in small packages. Also, that optimization is a good thing. I got this game down to a size where dial-up connections will load it instantly, even on speeds FAR slower than 56K, which even modern phone lines have trouble sustaining. Always remember not to make your games bloated.
